Owning an Audi: what to keep on top of
The S tronic gearbox and the TDI and TFSI engines are reliable when maintained, but each has its own items outside the basic oil service. Knowing which have been done saves money and protects the car's value when you sell.
- S tronic gearbox oil, which has its own change interval.
- Timing belt on TDI diesels at the age or mileage in the schedule.
- Oil use on some older 2.0 TFSI petrol engines.
- Keyless entry theft risk on popular models.
Is my Audi ULEZ compliant?
Almost every petrol Audi registered from 2006 meets ULEZ. Diesel TDI models generally meet it if registered from September 2015, so an older A4, A6 or Q5 diesel usually pays the £12.50 daily charge. Some earlier Audi diesels were already Euro 6, so check the exact car.
Can you get an Audi service history by registration?
Yes. Audi centres record work digitally, and for cars from model year 2012 the Full HPI Check with Service History lists those visits for £14.95. On a car with variable servicing, gaps of up to two years between visits can be normal, so read the dates against the mileage. Nothing is charged for the service history part if Audi holds no records.
Which Audi models can be checked?
Every Audi with a UK registration, including the A1, A3, A4, A5, A6, Q2, Q3, Q5, Q7, TT and the e-tron models.
