Owning an imported Opel: what to keep on top of
Keep proof of when the car was imported and its mileage at import, because a buyer will ask. Parts are shared with Vauxhall, so servicing is straightforward, but left-hand drive cars need UK-pattern headlamps to pass the MOT.
- Import date and the first UK registration date.
- Mileage before and after import, across MOT tests.
- Headlamp setup on left-hand drive cars.
- Servicing at a Vauxhall dealer, which can work on Opels.
Is my Opel ULEZ compliant?
The same ULEZ rules apply as for a Vauxhall: petrol models registered from 2006 generally comply and diesels need Euro 6, usually met from September 2015. An imported car's UK registration date can be later than its build date, so check the exact car rather than relying on the plate.
Can you get an Opel service history by registration?
Sometimes. Where Opel or Vauxhall holds a digital record for the car from model year 2012, the Full HPI Check with Service History lists it for £14.95. Servicing done abroad before import is often missing. If no records are found, the service history part is not charged.
Which Opel models can be checked?
Every Opel with a UK registration, including the Corsa, Astra, Insignia, Mokka, Zafira and Grandland.
