Owning a Volkswagen: what to keep on top of
Know which service plan your car is on, because LongLife cars can go up to two years between visits. On DSG automatics, the gearbox oil has its own interval, and on diesels from about 2009 to 2015 make sure the emissions recall work has been done.
- Fixed or LongLife servicing, and whether the visits match.
- DSG gearbox oil changes on automatics.
- Emissions recall on EA189 TDI diesels from about 2009 to 2015.
- Timing belt or chain work at the scheduled age or mileage.
Is my Volkswagen ULEZ compliant?
Petrol Volkswagens registered from 2006 generally meet ULEZ. Diesels need Euro 6, met by most VW diesels registered from September 2015. A Golf or Passat TDI from before then is usually Euro 5 and pays the £12.50 daily charge.
Can you get a Volkswagen service history by registration?
Volkswagen retailers record work in VW's digital service schedule. For cars from model year 2012 the Full HPI Check with Service History shows it for £14.95, which also confirms whether the emissions recall was carried out at a dealer. If no records are held, the service history part is not charged.
Which Volkswagen models can be checked?
Every Volkswagen with a UK registration, including the Up, Polo, Golf, T-Roc, Tiguan, Passat, Arteon and the ID models, plus Transporter vans for tax and MOT.
